What is a VoIP phone system?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. As the name suggests, it is a technology that enables the transmission of voice communication over the LAN or the internet. Simply put, when you use a VoIP phone system, you can use the internet for both voice calls and data transmission.

For an agent, a VoIP call works the same as a regular phone call. The voice signal is first converted to small digital packets using the IP protocol. These packets are then transmitted over the internet or the LAN, eliminating the need for physical wires (or a dedicated channel for voice communication). On the receiving end, these packets are converted back to voice signals by a VoIP-enabled device.
